Editorial policy
Our guides cover topics that matter: pet safety, family paperwork, and the days after a death. Here is how we try to get them right.
How we choose topics
We write about questions families actually ask, such as what to leave for a pet sitter or what goes in a pet emergency kit. We focus on practical, organizing help. We do not give veterinary, medical, legal, or financial advice.
How we use sources
- We rely on primary and official sources first: government agencies (CDC, Ready.gov, SSA, FTC, National Institute on Aging) and major professional or nonprofit organizations (AVMA, AAHA, ASPCA, AKC).
- We link to every source we use in a Sources box on the page.
- When sources disagree, we say so and show what each one says.
- We do not publish statistics, deadlines, phone numbers, or dollar figures without a source.
How we use AI tools
We use AI writing tools to help research and draft some pages. Every page is then checked against its sources and reviewed by a person in our family before it is published. If a page was drafted with AI help, a person is still responsible for every word.
Who writes our guides
Guides are written by The Hansome Family. We are not veterinarians, doctors, lawyers, or financial advisers. If we ever add a qualified reviewer, we will name them, list their credentials, and show the date they reviewed the page.
Dates and updates
Each guide shows the date it was published and a "Last reviewed" or "Updated" date. We change that date only when we have actually rechecked the page against its sources. We review pages on legal and money topics at least every six months, and sooner when an official rule changes.
Corrections
If you spot a mistake, please email us at hansomefamily@gmail.com or message us through our Etsy shop. We fix confirmed errors quickly and note important corrections at the end of the page.
Our products
We sell printable organizers, and our guides link to them when they fit the topic. We write guides to be useful on their own, whether or not you buy anything.
